The Altra Experience Flow is the way into Altra. It is one of the brand's few models, alongside the Experience Wild, that is not zero drop.
4 mm: the compromise
Altra built its reputation on the 0 mm drop, which remains demanding for a runner coming from a conventional 10 mm shoe. The Experience Flow comes up to 4 mm: enough to spare the Achilles, low enough to keep that flat-footed feel. The wide FootShape forefoot platform does not change.
The version 3
The current generation uses Altra EGO P35 foam, slightly firmer and more stable than the previous one, with more outsole rubber for durability. At around 255 g in a men's 10.5, it stays light for a daily trainer.
Who is the Experience Flow for?
- Runners curious about the Altra concept who do not want to dive straight into zero drop.
- Anyone who needs forefoot room on the road.
- Runners after a stable daily shoe without excessive cushioning.
Experience Flow or Escalante?
The Altra Escalante is pure zero drop on the road, with a knit upper and an even more direct feel. The Experience Flow is more forgiving and easier to get into. Plenty of runners start with the Flow and move to the Escalante later.
And on trail?
The Altra Experience Wild applies the same approach to trails: 4 mm drop, wide forefoot, and a Vibram Megagrip outsole on the 3+ version.
Try it on in store
Come near Québec City to try it. The Altra last divides opinion: it is judged on the foot.
