HYROX is, above all, a running race: 8 x 1 km broken up by eight strength stations. That’s why the best HYROX shoe isn’t a cross-training shoe with a super grippy outsole, but a real running shoe: fast, efficient and stable enough to handle the sled and the lunges. Here is our 2026 selection, sorted by goal, picked from the models we fit in store.
Unlike a CrossFit gym, where a flat and stable outsole wins, HYROX rewards running economy: over 8 km, every gram and every bit of energy return counts. The challenge is finding the right balance between the propulsion you need to run fast, the stability you need on the stations, and the grip you need to push the sled. Whether you are looking for the best HYROX shoes for men or for women, for a first HYROX or for competition, there is an option below.
Which shoe should you choose for HYROX?
To chase a time, a carbon plate super shoe like the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 4 or the Saucony Endorphin Pro 5. For the best run-station balance (what most athletes want), a plated super-trainer: Saucony Endorphin Speed 5, ASICS Magic Speed 5 or Puma Deviate Nitro 4 (and its PUMAGRIP outsole, a real asset on the sled). For comfort and stability or a first HYROX, a cushioned trainer like the ASICS Novablast 6 or the Brooks Ghost 18.
How this selection was made
This selection was put together by the Boréal Running team, based on our own runs in these shoes, our stability and grip testing in store, and what we see our HYROX customers actually need.

What makes a good HYROX shoe?
Four things separate a good HYROX shoe from an ordinary running shoe.
Running efficiency
This is criterion number one: HYROX means 8 km of running in total. Good energy return (responsive foams, a plate) and a contained weight save real seconds over that distance. That is why fast athletes increasingly race in a super shoe or a plated super-trainer.
Grip (for the sled)
The sled push and sled pull demand that you drive hard through your feet, so a shoe with real traction helps enormously. On that front, the PUMAGRIP rubber on the Puma Deviate is a benchmark, where some carbon super shoes slip more.
Stability on the stations
Sandbag lunges, wall balls, farmers carry: these stations call for a stable platform. A shoe with a very high stack and a stiff carbon plate, blazing fast on the run, feels less reassuring laterally, which is exactly why super-trainers are more versatile.
The trade-off, by level
Not sure about your gait or how much cushioning you need? Our guide to choosing running shoes covers the basics. In short: the more you chase performance, the more you move toward carbon; the more you value comfort and stability, the more you move toward a cushioned trainer.
Chasing a time: carbon plate shoes
Maximum energy return on the running segments, at the cost of a little stability on the stations. For the experienced athlete racing against the clock.

Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 4 Our performance pick

Saucony Endorphin Pro 5 Pure speed
The best run-station balance: super-trainers
Nearly the propulsion of a carbon shoe, but more stable, more durable and more forgiving through the transitions and the stations. The ideal choice for most HYROX athletes, and the best compromise for day-to-day HYROX training.

Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 The best compromise

Puma Deviate Nitro 4 King of grip

ASICS Magic Speed 5 Affordable carbon
Comfort and stability: first HYROX and high volume
No plate, more cushioning and more stability: the best HYROX shoes for beginners, if you are stacking up training volume, or if you value security on the strength stations.

ASICS Novablast 6 Dynamic comfort

Brooks Ghost 18 The most stable
