Men's max cushioning running shoes

More foam underfoot means more comfort, more shock absorption and less fatigue over long distances. Our men's max cushioning running shoes — Brooks, Saucony, ASICS, Mizuno and Salomon — deliver plush protection, ideal for daily training, long runs and recovery.

Who is max cushioning for?

These shoes especially suit runners who prioritize comfort and joint protection: long distances, high-volume training, return from injury, or simply a preference for a soft ride. The tall stack of foam absorbs impact with every stride, reducing the load on your legs over time.

Our flagship models

The Brooks Glycerin, Saucony Triumph and ASICS Gel-Nimbus are among the max-cushioning benchmarks, joined by Mizuno and Salomon options. Each strikes its own balance of softness, stability and pop.

Max cushioning or a responsive shoe?

It depends on your goal. Max cushioning prioritizes comfort and protection over distance and daily training. A more responsive shoe (firmer foam, sometimes with a carbon plate) returns more energy for speed and racing. Many runners own both and rotate by session.

Frequently asked questions

When is max cushioning appropriate for daily runs?
It's ideal for high-volume daily training, long runs, recovery and return from injury — whenever comfort and protection matter more than speed. Many runners make it their main training shoe.
What's the difference between a max-cushioned and a responsive shoe?
Max cushioning relies on thick, soft foam for comfort and shock absorption. A responsive shoe uses firmer foam (sometimes a plate) that returns more energy for speed, at the cost of some softness.
Is max cushioning good for long distances?
Yes, it's one of its best uses. The extra protection reduces muscle and joint fatigue on the marathon and long runs, where accumulated impact takes a toll.
Is a highly cushioned shoe less stable?
A tall stack of foam can feel less planted. Brands offset this with wider geometries and framed foams. If you want support, also look at our stability shoes.
Can I do speed work in max cushioning shoes?
You can, but it's not their strength: they prioritize comfort. For speed work and racing, a lighter, more responsive shoe — or a carbon-plated one — is better suited.
How do I choose between max and moderate cushioning?
If you like ground feel and responsiveness, moderate cushioning is enough. If you prioritize comfort, protection and long distances, max cushioning is the way. An in-store fitting helps you decide by feel.
