The ASICS BlazeBlast is a road-to-trail hybrid. ASICS takes the bouncy feel of the Novablast and adds what it needs to leave the pavement.

The spec sheet

  • FF BLAST MAX foam and the trampoline geometry at the forefoot, just like the Novablast.
  • An ASICSGRIP outsole with 2.5 mm lugs: enough for gravel and smooth trails, not enough for technical mountain terrain.
  • Roughly 43 mm of stack at the heel and an 8 mm drop, identical to the Novablast 6's.
  • Around 252 g, with a woven upper more protective than a road one.

What does road-to-trail mean?

It is the category of shoes that refuse to choose. Plenty of runs, in the city and the suburbs alike, start on asphalt, cut through a park, pick up a gravel path and come back by the street. A road shoe slips the moment you leave the pavement; a true trail shoe is uncomfortable on it. The BlazeBlast targets exactly that mixed ground.

Who is the BlazeBlast for?

  • Runners who alternate road and trail in the same outing.
  • Fans of gravel, parks and smooth trails.
  • Trail beginners who do not want a technical shoe.
  • Road runners looking for a second pair to get off the pavement.

BlazeBlast or Novablast?

Same foam, same drop, same bouncy feel. The difference is underfoot: lugs and protection on one side, road rubber on the other. If you never leave the asphalt, the Novablast is still the nicer ride. Our full comparison: BlazeBlast vs Novablast 6.

And for real trail?

For mountains, mud and technical ground you want deeper lugs and more serious protection. Look at the ASICS Trabuco, or our trail running shoes for men and women.

Frequently asked questions

Is the BlazeBlast a true trail shoe?
It is a road-to-trail hybrid built for smooth ground: paths, gravel, easy trails. Its ASICSGRIP outsole with 2.5 mm lugs grips well off the pavement, but technical mountain terrain calls for deeper lugs.
Can you run on the road in the BlazeBlast?
Yes, and that is its strong point. Its FF BLAST MAX foam and 8 mm drop make it pleasant on asphalt, which makes it a good pick when a single run alternates street and trail.
BlazeBlast or Novablast?
Same foam, same drop, same bouncy feel. The Novablast if you stay on the road, the BlazeBlast if you leave it. Our full comparison covers the details.
What is the drop of the BlazeBlast?
8 mm, exactly like the Novablast 6. Switching between the two takes no adjustment at all.
