What is a performance running shoe?
It's a light, responsive shoe built to run fast: high-energy-return foam, sometimes a carbon plate, low weight. It prioritizes propulsion and efficiency over maximum durability.
Do I need a carbon plate?
A carbon plate shines on hard efforts and long distances (half, marathon, PRs). For intervals and tempo, a responsive model without a rigid plate like the Saucony Endorphin Speed is often enough and costs less.
Can I use performance shoes every day?
Not ideal: race foams wear faster and offer less support over the miles. Save them for key sessions and rotate with a cushioned trainer for your easy runs.
How long does a carbon plate shoe last?
Often 200 to 400 km before the foam loses its pop, less than a regular trainer. That's why you keep them for quality workouts and races, not daily mileage.
