Balanced cushioning for a natural stride

Men's neutral running shoes suit the majority of runners: those whose foot doesn't roll excessively inward. With no corrective support imposed, they focus on cushioning, flexibility and a smooth ride, from daily training to long distances. Discover our Brooks, ASICS, Mizuno and Saucony models.

What is a neutral stride?

On landing, the foot rolls slightly inward to absorb shock: that's normal pronation. A neutral stride pronates just the right amount — neither too much (overpronation) nor too little (supination). Most runners fall into this category and need no corrective support, just good cushioning.

Which runners is it for?

For those whose soles wear evenly, without heavy wear on the inner edge, and who feel no instability while running. When in doubt, an in-store gait analysis confirms your profile.

Our flagship men's neutral models

Brooks: Ghost and Glycerin

The Ghost is the everyday neutral trainer par excellence — a perfect balance of softness and durability. The Glycerin (and Glycerin Max) pushes plush cushioning to the max for long runs.

ASICS: Gel-Nimbus, Novablast and Gel-Cumulus

The Gel-Nimbus is the premium benchmark for neutral cushioning, the Novablast brings a dynamic, energetic bounce, while the Gel-Cumulus offers excellent everyday value.

Mizuno: Wave Rider and Neo Vista

The Wave Rider delivers a smooth, balanced ride thanks to the Wave plate; the Neo Vista goes for modern, energetic cushioning.

How to choose your neutral shoe?

  • Versatile daily training: Brooks Ghost or ASICS Gel-Cumulus
  • Max cushioning, long distances: Brooks Glycerin or ASICS Gel-Nimbus
  • Dynamic bounce: ASICS Novablast or Mizuno Neo Vista

Neutral or stability: how to decide?

If your foot rolls excessively inward (overpronation), a men's stability shoe will suit you better. To dig deeper, read our guide on neutral vs stability running shoes.

Frequently asked questions

What is a neutral running shoe?
It's a shoe with no stride-correction system. It lets the foot move naturally and focuses on cushioning and flexibility. It's the right choice for most runners, whose stride needs no corrective support.
How do I know if my stride is neutral?
Check the wear on your old soles: even wear, not concentrated on the inner edge, often points to a neutral stride. No alignment-related pain is another sign. An in-store gait analysis confirms it.
What's the difference between neutral and stability shoes?
A neutral shoe lets your foot follow its natural movement. A stability shoe adds support that limits excessive inward rolling (overpronation), for a more consistent footstrike.
Does neutral mean no cushioning?
No, quite the opposite. 'Neutral' describes the absence of stride correction, not the amount of cushioning. A neutral shoe can be highly cushioned (max cushioning) or lighter and more responsive, depending on the model.
Which neutral shoes should I start with?
The Brooks Ghost and ASICS Gel-Cumulus are safe everyday bets. For more cushioning, look at the Brooks Glycerin or ASICS Gel-Nimbus; for bounce, the ASICS Novablast.
